A: Ohio’s line fence law, also referred to as the “partition fence law,” establishes rights and obligations for fences that are placed on the division line between properties in Ohio’s unincorporated areas. City officials say people won't be able to scale a new, much-debated fence that soon will be installed on the All-America Bridge (Y-Bridge.)

The fence, which when combined with a concrete wall will stand at 10 feet, will be made of steel, with small diamond-shaped openings too small for climbing.

How Will Ohio's New Fence Law Affect You?

Ohio State University Extension's Guernsey County office invites you to a Fence Law Workshop on Wednesday, April 8, at 6:30 p.m., in Old Washington. The topic: Ohio's new fence law and how it will affect you.

Peggy Hall, director of OSU Extension's Agricultural and Resource Law Program, will speak.

The program takes place at the Oscar Share Hall at the Guernsey County Fairgrounds, 335 Old National Road.

Registration costs $10 per person and is due by April 6.

Fence thief had much larger operation

DAYTON — A man originally caught dismantling and stealing a house's wrought-iron fence faces additional charges after police recovered stolen antique architectural items he had stored in a warehouse that also didn't belong to him.

Charles D. Wilson, 55, of Dayton, was first arrested at 4:44 a.m. on March 9 outside of a house in the 500 block of Steele Avenue. The home's owner called police and said he was watching a man using a shovel and steel rod to take apart the small fence surrounding his house, said Dayton Sgt. Moe Perez.

Ohio jail wants fence to stop balcony jumpers

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio jail wants to install fencing along a balcony and a staircase to keep inmates from jumping as far as 16 feet to the floor below.

At least three leaped from the balcony or the top of the stairs at the Huron County jail last year, and officials at the facility in Norwalk point out that going over the railing would not land an inmate on an escape route. So, jail administrator Dave Battles speculates that jumpers may hope to put themselves in the hospital, feeling that’s better than jail.
